Michael H. Carrel has been President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of AtriCure, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRC) since November 2012. Under his leadership, AtriCure has grown into a global leader with a vision to impact millions of patients worldwide by advancing standards of care for atrial fibrillation, left atrial appendage management, and post-surgical pain. He has shaped a patient-first mission centered on innovation, clinical science, and education, positioning AtriCure to expand its addressable markets from approximately $1 billion in 2010 to more than $10 billion by 2030 and to extend patient reach around the globe.

Under Mr. Carrel’s leadership, AtriCure has delivered an 18% compound annual growth rate since 2012, reached more than one million patients to date, and reached profitability targets to support sustainable long-term growth. He has also led strategic acquisitions that expanded the company’s ablation and appendage management technologies and strengthened AtriCure’s position as a global market leader.

Mr. Carrel’s career includes successful leadership in global organizations across the healthcare and technology industries. Before joining AtriCure, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Vital Images, Inc., a publicly traded medical imaging software company that was acquired by Toshiba Medical Systems Corp. Prior to Vital Images, he was President and CEO of Zamba Corp. and Chief Financial Officer of NextNet Wireless, Inc.

He serves on the Board of Directors of Inspire Medical Systems (NYSE: INSP), a medical technology company focused on the development and commercialization of innovative, minimally invasive solutions for patients with obstructive sleep apnea. From 2019 to 2024, he was Board Chair of Axonics, Inc., which was acquired by Boston Scientific in 2024.

Mr. Carrel is Board Chair Emeritus of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and has been a director since 2021. Since 2015, he has served on the Board of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) and is also on the Board of AdvaMed®. He holds a B.S. in accounting from Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
