Post-surgical pain after amputation can be severe with high rates of acute post-surgical and chronic pain long term – impacting recovery, quality of life, and long-term outcomes. Cryo Nerve Block (cryoNB) therapy harnesses the power of cryoICE technology for a non-opioid approach to amputation pain management.
As a procedural option that fits naturally into the surgical workflow, cryoNB with cryoXT, requires minimal surgical steps and adds only minutes to the surgical procedure.
The cryoXT probe uses a unique intraoperative freezing method to temporarily block peripheral nerve pain signals – playing a key role in the multimodal pain management plan. The effect can last for several months of the patients’ recovery period and may aid in the prevention of residual limb pain and phantom limb pain.
The prong-shaped probe is designed with three distinct surfaces to engage the exposed nerve, optimizing heat extraction.
Once frozen, the tubule structures of the nerve remain intact while the axon degenerates distally from the freezing site.
